Bottega Louie in Downtown Los Angeles

Bottega Louie is THE SPOT in DTLA.  This much is known.  But is it THE SPOT for chocolate chip cookies?  Here's the thing: Bottega Louie can just as easily devote all attention to their famous macaroons and neglect the CCC.  But they didn't.  What we have here is an altogether stellar offering.  Rating: (not quite) THE SPOT (but one of them).

Semi Sweet Bakery in Downtown Los Angeles

You know what?  I can only be genuine with my reviews here.  I do not want to betray the trust of the readers.  This photo has been in my phone for about a month, and I forgot what this tasted like.  But, you can sort of think of that as a review in-and-of-itself; if I forgot how it tasted, how good can it be?  Rating: 4 question marks

Urth Caffe in Pasadena

You may be thinking that this does not look like a chocolate chip cookie.  Well, let me clear up any misconceptions right now:  it is.  You may also be thinking that the colors of this photo have been inverted.  Again: they have not.  See, Urth Caffee has two options: a chocolate chip cookie with pecans or almonds or something, and this--a brownie chocolate cookie with white chocolate chips.  I am going to try to remain a purist as much as I can, so I'm going to try to limit the posts on this blog to cookies with only chocolate chips in them.  So, I chose this white chocolate number.  It was good!  A little dry and crumbly, but enough of a gooey, sticky mess of sludge in my mouth to be a successful brownie.  Uh oh.  Don't want to make a post about a brownie instead of a cookie.  Rating: 3 brownies

Subway in Downtown Los Angeles (Grand)

Subway's cookies are a little too soft and floppy for my liking, and the first bite into them tastes like they are trying too hard to impress with a burst of sweetness.  Rating: Just OK.

Specialty's Cafe & Bakery in Downtown Los Angeles

This is one of the best chocolate chip cookies I have ever eaten, and I am a frequent customer at this establishment.  Rating: 50000000 points

G&B Coffee in Downtown Los Angeles

Salt flakes on the top.  I'm not sure how they did the chocolate inside, it was spread all throughout like a cracked yolk in a fried egg.  I also think there were some vanilla chocolate chips inside.  Rating: 100.

Mendocino Farms in Downtown Los Angeles (7th & Fig)

I liked the massive morsels.  Probably between 3 and 4 inches in diameter, so you won't feel bloated after you have had your dessert.  Or, if you eat it before the main course, you will still be hungry for the sandwich.  Rating: 3 stars.
